I paint in my home studio in Williamsburg VA where I live with my partner Doug, our three rescue cats, Jolie, Teach, and Taz, and our 21-year-old chihuahua mix, Eddie. I love exploring the gorgeous natural settings around our home, hanging with friends, volunteering in cat rescue, baking goodies, meditation, playing and listening to music, and dancing! I like to put on some great tunes and dance while I paint.
My paintings come from my imagination, my experiences in nature, my emotions, my love of movement, form and color. Every painting is a journey of discovery, enjoying the process of layering acrylics, employing various mark-making tools, sometimes collage, scraping away, and adding again until the composition conveys the subject or feeling I’m seeking.
My work has been in the art and interior design fields for over thirty years. I began my journey into an art career in 1989 as a decorative artist, executing residential and commercial faux finishes, murals, and painted furniture. Along with my crew, I have painted everything from 10,000 square foot restaurant interiors to tiny glamorous powder rooms and sets for television and events. I liked that every job was unique and involved research, experimenting, and developing a new finish or technique. That kept it interesting over the years. Working with gracious clients and the most wonderful and talented assistants made it rewarding.
Over the years I’ve practiced interior design consultation, free-lanced as a scenic artist, and made three-dimensional mosaic pieces. But in the fall of 2020, a design client asked me to do a painting for her. I agreed and discovered the pure JOY of painting from my soul. My client bought four of the pieces I produced, and I just kept on painting! After decades of client-driven creative work, I’m grateful and thrilled to be able to explore this aspect of my creativity! I hope you discover something of yourself in this work. Every mark is made with love.
